How it works

Lucett uses the most up to date secure data transmission technology widely used in many other industries - RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification).

They are used in many different industries, but you’ve probably seen them when buying new clothes; they are commonly used on retail clothes tags to tell the store the colour size and model of T shirt, jeans or sweater you want to buy.

Passive vs Active RFID

A passive RFID tag works in an ingenious way. At the centre of the tag is a very small micro chip, which holds the data that is programmed on to it - Lucett programs the details of a clients asset there.

The grey lines running through the tag are actually its antenna, which is constantly listening for a signal from a reader (Lucett uses handheld and fixed readers). As soon as the antenna ‘hears’ a reader, it takes a very small amount of energy from that signal, and uses it reply back to the reader to confirm that it is in range, and reports what is written on its micro chip. All client assets are tagged using passive RFID tags, they don’t emit their own signals, and only active when they ‘hear’ a reader. Lucett doesn’t intrude on the private life of the person who owns the asset.

An Active RFID tag works in a different way, it has it’s own power source, and constantly emits a signal, which can be tracked by multiple readers, some even have satellite communication abilities, allowing authorised people to actively track movements of the tag and the asset it’s attached to anywhere in the world. Lucett uses these active trackers as an add-on service for high value assets in transit. They are typically placed inside boxes or crates in transit. They can be used to measure all sorts of data, such has temperature, humidity, shock and a whole host of other things.

How secure is it?

To add an additional layer of security to our system and to protect our clients, Lucett doesn’t write any personal data on to the micro chip, we program the basic information of the asset as well as a unique code. When the reader receives this code, the cloud based Lucett platform takes over. Only people with Lucett credentials and then only authorised people for the specific account have layered access to information. The asset owner gets to decide who has access to what information.

A network of professionals

Lucett works with an ever expanding network of transportation and installation professionals across the globe, each equipped with the infrastructure to maintain what we like to call The Chain of Responsibility when handling Lucett tagged assets. These transport professionals work independently of each other, yet remain in contact with each other, using Lucett’s in-built file transfer system and messaging capabilities ensuring seamless communications when goods are on the move.

Provenance - and how we protect it.

Knowing the history of a particular asset can increase it’s value, if a famous person once owned a particular chair, its value may well increase. At Lucett, we protect and maintain all the history of a specific asset, including copies of purchase invoices, passports, magazine articles - just about any important document with our document up-load section. We also keep photographic evidence of the condition of the asset at specific events, like collections and deliveries, as well as signed copies of all condition reports and movement notes. All data is secured on our off-site servers and constantly backed up. Lucett - not just protecting provenance, but also maintaining the Chain of Responsibility.

Lucett - who benefits and how?

As Lucett is the only asset centric, asset tracking system in the world that incorporates not only the transporter, but the owner of the goods as well as any number of third parties in-between, there are lots of potential people that can benefit.

Owners of the asset, are of course the obvious first answer, knowing where their assets are at any one time is useful information for not only peace of mind, but also insurance purposes. Knowing what you have and where makes paying the correct insurance premiums a breeze! Asset management is fundamental to wealth management, with Lucett, clients know where their assets are at anytime, all of the time.

Transport companies, our Preferred Partners, also benefit from the Lucett platform. With its fully operational logistics platform, movement planning, documentation, reminders and instant modifications makes Lucett an obvious choice. Lucett assists in issuing instant planning changes… paperless condition reports… photographic inventories… signed documentation… automatic notifications… and email confirmations and much more.

Lucett Preferred Partners also have access to work with other Preferred Partners around the world. Giving them access to contacts they may not have had access to previously.

Ultimately, our Preferred Partners are part of a worldwide network – able to receive rate requests from agents in Moscow, Madrid, London or Tokyo – because their clients need to guarantee a professional unbroken chain of responsibility, only available with Lucett.

Insurance providers can benefit from restricted information flow from the Lucett platform. With permission from the asset owners, Lucett will provide limited data to insurance companies, detailing the condition of assets at a specific times, when high risk occurs (typically in transit) and alternatively lower risk (in storage or installed in a property).

Security companies also benefit from information that Lucett can provide. By allowing limited data exchange, an owner of an asset can supplement existing security measures by allowing security companies access to asset movement data, Lucett can send emails and text messages to security companies instantly…knowing a Picasso is leaving a property at 3am is useful information to have on an urgent basis!
